Personal Logo

Posted in Art & Design, Personal Work by Natalie on March 22, 2010

I designed this personal logo using Adobe Illustrator. I created each shape individually and drew the clouds by hand using the paintbrush tool. I was trying to produce an image of a cityscape inside a giant letter “n” – for Natalie! I tried to keep it fairly simple since it is a logo, but also wanted to give it a little zest and creativity (the clouds, buildings inside the “n”), which emphasizes the concept of my world, my city, my view on design and ideas.

Duo Van Tone

I chose this painting by Vincent Van Gogh for this Photoshop exercise. This is simply a duotone application that can add a little spice to well-worn, or even brand spankin’ new, shoes…I mean, images.

New York State of Type

Posted in Art & Design, Photography by Natalie on March 10, 2010

While browsing one of my favorite sites, I came across this link for types found all over New York City. I think this is highly appropriate given the fact I am currently studying typography in class…Enjoy. (via Kottke)

Flag Me

Posted in Art & Design, Personal Work by Natalie on March 10, 2010

Simple exercise in Illustrator: create a personal flag. When looking at good flag design the biggest factor for me was the helpful hint that a child should be able to draw it from memory. I decided to create a couple different versions. The first is a play on the fact that I like riding a bike, hence the gear-esque star in the center. For color choice I went with red because, well, I have red hair, and green/black because these are the colors of my bike. Nuff said. Simple stuff people. For the second one I just decided to do whatever I felt like. No real deeper thought or motivation involved, just liked the design and color choice.

Conan’s on Twitter.

A Photoshop exercise in Typography. I had a lot of fun with assignment (and it had nothing to do with Conan’s witty remark, although it is pretty awesome). I find working with type to be a challenging source of enjoyment. I had a limited amount of time to complete this, with the requirement being that I could only use the tools available in Photoshop. I have a slight issue with some of the leading in this design. I didn’t get a chance to go back and assure a congruous 48pt leading to account for the larger portions of text. But overall, I’m pretty happy with it.
