I <3 Pinterest

Posted in Art & Design, Social Media by Natalie on January 20, 2012

I recently started using the new social media, image-sharing site, Pinterest, and I think I’m in love. The site seamlessly aggregates images from a huge array of sources and makes sharing, or pinning, a breeze. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a site so user-friendly. Not only can I “pin” creative bits I find or create onĀ  my own, but, after telling Pinterest my interests, I can browse hundreds of posts from people just like me! It’s a great source of discovery and inspiration.

Pinterest sums it up best,

Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

Judge a Book by its Cover

Posted in Art & Design by Natalie on November 28, 2011

As someone who refuses to accept that print is dead (or dying?), I love books – reading books, holding books, turning book pages – and, of course, enjoying books’ cover art. Therefore, I found this article on 20 Classic Novels’ First Covers to be pretty interesting. Loving the worn, iconic look of these covers. Now, we just need a follow up article with the recent editions’ cover art.

The Office

Posted in Art & Design, Branding by Natalie on November 28, 2011

Hey everyone! I’m back! Sorry for my absence, but I had the amazing opportunity to travel down to Florida over the Thanksgiving holiday and soak up some sun on the beach. And, my laptop just really isn’t beach compatible. But I’m back in Pittsburgh, and it seems I’m now being punished for my lack of doing anything productive over the last 7 days with this miserable rain – which, inherently, keeps me indoors and on the computer. But on the bright side, that means I’m here blogging to you!

However, dreams of the sun are still circling in my brain, so I feel I must mention this amazing restaurant I patronized while down south, The Office. I bring it up, because I feel it should be recommended for inclusion in Art of the Menu for it’s amazing menu design and branding efforts. Sadly, I didn’t get photographs of the actual menu, but you can get a sense of what I’m talking about by checking out their website.

Social Media Propaganda

This artist’s work combines two of my favorite things, design and social media. Aaron Wood creates World War style propaganda posters for social media wars. Pretty clever and convincing.

Dexter posters

Since I no longer get Showtime, I’m (very sadly) missing out on this season’s Dexter. However, these posters will just have to fulfill my Dexter fix until I can commandeer my parents’ couch, TV, and On-Demand. From Ty Mattson, these silkscreens are visually stunning and Dexter appropriate.
